Objectives

In this project, we will provide training for our networking partners, both professional youth workers and volunteering youth, who have worked or want to work as team leaders in international youth exchanges.

The aim of the training is to bring together people from different cultures interested to learn more about international project work, leadership and youth exchanges. Our goal is to address group dynamics, problem-solving skills, security, project work and collaboration skills from different cultural perspectives to increase participants’ understanding of diversity. Our goal is for mentors to develop the knowledge and skills needed to carry out quality projects that take into account young people’s involvement.

A good youth exchange also requires that team leaders have the necessary skills to support youth inclusion, to work with people from different cultures and to see things from different perspectives. The aim is also to further develop methods to strengthen the inclusion of disadvantaged young people.

Through this project we want to further develop the skills of group leaders. We in networks need to further develop our expertise in youth participation and group leadership.

Activities

We provide training for young people involved in international projects and youth exchanges. The training will be held at the Youth Center Villa Elba in Kokkola 27.1-2.2.2020. There will be 32 participants who are active in youth work.

During the training, we will highlight different methods and share good practices on group leadership, conflict management and how to support young people’s active participation in youth exchanges. As working methods, we use lectures, discussions, hands-on exercises and role-playing games that support the active participation of participants. The aim of this training is to deepen participants’ group leadership skills, provide ideas for supporting young people in international projects, and provide space for the exchange of ideas, expertise and good practice.

Villa Elba acts as the host for the project and as the sending partner for the partner organizations.

Impact

Participants learn new ways of working and gain new perspectives on supporting youth participation. The organizations involved receive new tools and methods for their own work and up-to-date information as a means of supporting young people with fewer opportunities. Organizations can adopt the methods as they are or adapt them to their own operations. The organizations involved will have the opportunity to have a conversation with young people, to hear their thoughts and wishes. Organizations can reflect on their own ways of working, which increases their self-awareness and develops their every-day work. Organizations gain tools, know-how and methods to organize youth exchanges. With the help of shared expertise, the network will be further strengthened and projects will be carried out in which young people will be more closely involved as active players.
